This beautiful WWI poster was created by the artist and prolific illustrator Haskell Coffin and issued by the American Red Cross in 1918. For this poster, Coffin renders an image of an angelic nurse in flowing white uniform reaching toward the viewer as if to offer help or comfort above the simple title Third Red Cross Roll Call.

Haskell Coffin was one of the leading illustrators of the early 20th century doing covers for The Saturday Evening Post, Redbook, Pictorial Review and other leading magazines of the day. Coffin produced several posters during the WWI era all of which featured women exclusively. The lower lefthand corner is printed with a copyright by the American Red Cross and the lower righthand corner indicates the maker as “American Lithographic Co., N.Y.”

This vintage poster has been professionally linen backed. The poster showed light handling wear but had a long but clean vertical tear without loss of paper which was expertly repaired during the linen backing process. Short tears of less than an inch without paper loss have also been repaired on the lower edge and on the right edge. The poster was very clean and retains the fullness of the original colors. Overall condition is very good.
