This vintage original and rare interwar period poster was issued by the United States Navy for recruiting purposes in 1931. This poster highlights opportunities for world travel and learning valuable trades garnered through enlistment in the U.S. Navy. Text on the poster reads JOIN the NAVY Profitable trades are learned Strange lands are visited On cruising vessels of The U.S. NAVY.
The document code printed in the lower margin indicates this poster was issued in 1931 and the artist’s name, J.W. Burbank, appears in the lower righthand corner of the image area. Far fewer U.S. Navy recruiting posters were issued during the interwar period making them much harder to find than posters issued during WWI and WWII. Posters from the interwar period tended to emphasis travel, the opportunity to learn job skills and other peacetime messages such as this example here.
This vintage original poster has been professionally linen backed with some touchup as needed. This poster has some replaced paper loss along the margin on the left edge not affecting the image area. Two small puncture holes in the upper margin not affecting the image area and have been expertly repaired as have a few short tears on the edges. . This rare vintage original U.S. Navy recruiting poster displays beautifully. Overall condition is very good.
