This vintage original poster was created by the prolific American illustrator McClelland Barclay for the US Navy and issued in 1942 to help promote recruiting for the United States Navy. Barclay renders an image of a strapping US Navy sailor manhandling a large artillery shell as his brothers-in-arms fire a naval deck gun bracketed by text that reads:
DISH IT OUT with THE NAVY – CHOOSE NOW WHILE YOU CAN
The poster reminded prospective recruits that they could choose to enlist in the US Navy before being drafted into other branches of military service. McClelland Barkley’s signature appears in print in the image. This vintage original poster shows light handling wear and is apparently unused. The poster shows light handling wear including a small crease to the tip of the upper left hand corner and edges slightly bumped in spots including a small quarter inch tear on the right edge without paper loss. The poster is free of tape or pinholes, retains strong color and is in very good condition overall.
