This vintage original WWII poster promoting the 7th War Loan drive was created by the artist C.C. Beall from the iconic photograph of U.S. Marines raising the American flag on the top of Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima. This is the largest size for this poster which was also issued in two smaller sizes as well.
The original photo, taken by Joe Rosenthal for the Associated Press, shows six Marines raising the flag. Three of the six Marines in the photo would be later killed in action at Iwo Jima and a fourth seriously wounded. Also in the group of flag raising Marines was the Pima Indian Ira Hayes who would die tragically himself ten years later and be immortalized in the Peter La Farge song The Ballad of Ira Hayes which became a hit for Johnny Cash in 1964.
This vintage original poster was issued folded and looks unused with no tape or pinholes and just light handling wear including a quarter inch tear on one edge and modest toning from age. There are a couple brief notations written on the back of the poster not affecting the front side.  Overall condition is excellent.
