This vintage original WWII poster promoting the 7th War Loan drive was created by the artist C.C. Beall from the iconic photograph of U.S. Marines raising the American flag on the top of Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima. The original photo, taken by Joe Rosenthal for the Associated Press, shows six Marines raising the flag. Three of the six Marines in the photo would be later killed in action at Iwo Jima and a fourth seriously wounded. Also in the group of flag raising Marines was the Pima Indian Ira Hayes who would die tragically himself ten years later and be immortalized in the Peter La Farge song The Ballad of Ira Hayes which became a hit for Johnny Cash in 1964.

This vintage original small format poster was issued folded once laterally across the center and looks unused and in excellent, near mint condition with just light handling, modest toning from age and a brief notation in pen on verso. Overall condition is excellent.
