This vintage original and scarce poster was created for the United States Treasury in 1945 to promote the sale of Victory Loan Bonds. Victory Loan Bonds were the eighth and final WWII era bonds issued by the United States government to finance the war with the Victory Loan Bond drive running from October 29 to December 8, 1945.
The imagery of this poster, showing a resolute American soldier holding his rifle and standing at attention with planet Earth behind him, conveys the changing mission of the United States military from war fighting to maintaining peace. The United States largely escaped the devastation visited upon Europe and Asia during WWII and for a period of time assumed a de facto role as the world’s policeman which is expressed here with text that reads To Police The Peace – Buy Victory Loan Bonds.
This vintage original poster has no tape or pinholes and shows moderate handling wear including some bumping to the edges and a couple short tears in the upper margin no affecting the image area. A small trace of staining is slightly visible in the right side margin near the bottom corner. The colors are robust and this rolled poster was probably never hung up or used. Overall condition is very good.
